I teach vinyasa flow and yin/yang styles of yoga, emphasizing the spiritual aspects of practice described in sacred texts and teachings from many traditions. I encourage mindful breathing, inward listening, and non-judgment to cultivate a meditative attitude. This allows students to transcend the ego and witness the inner presence, developing ahimsa (non-harming), santosha (contentment), and ananda (bliss). Students leave class feeling refreshed, relaxed, and more clear in mind and body.

Each vinyasa class includes chanting Om, meditation, and conscious breathing techniques to quiet the mind and establish the foundations of focus and breath for the practice. Sun salutations unlock the body's natural flow of energy, posture transitions follow the flow of breath, and I offer precise adjustments with a healing touch. Class ends with savasana, a short seated meditation, and Om.

Yin yoga is a style of practice in which seated postures are held in a physically relaxed, mentally attentive manner for several minutes. This style of yoga stretches the connective tissue and invigorates the nadis (energy channels). When combined with a flow of physically engaged Yang style postures, held for shorter periods of time, every layer of the body becomes energized and awakened. The yin practice invites us to be calmly inclusive in our awareness of physical and emotional difficulties, both on the mat and in the world, while the yang practice teaches us to direct our actions with appropriate effort and intention. Including yin practices provides an important balance for the more active styles of posture practice prevalent in western society.

I typically open and close all classes by singing an ancient Vedic Chant in Sanskrit, then speaking the English translation.
